Chicago Suburbs Can't Meet Needs of Poor Residents

Immigration and the demolition of the city’s biggest housing projects have spread poverty out into the surrounding suburbs. According to a recent study from the University of Illinois at Chicago-“Uneven Capacity and Delivery of Human Services in the Chicago Suburbs: The Role of Townships and Municipalities”-these new neighborhoods of the poor aren’t always equipped to meet their needs. So what’s in store for the suburbs’ poorest residents? One of the co-authors of the study, Associate Professor Karen Mossberger of UIC’s Department of Public Administration answers that question.
