An historic Chicago church is reopening for weekend masses Saturday. Holy Name Cathedral closed in February after fire damaged the roof.
Holy Name Cathedral, which is the cardinal's church, was in the middle of a multi-million-dollar renovation when the fire hit in February. It had only been reopened for about six months when it had to close again. The fire damaged the roof and attic, and there was water damage to the sanctuary.
Now the cathedral's reopening for weekend masses. The parish will still hold daily masses in its club room.
There's still structural work being done on the building's exterior.
The Great Fire of Chicago destroyed the original church. It reopened as the grand cathedral in 1875.
