Quinn: Looking Forward to Signing Campaign Limits Bill

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn gets the final say on whether a bill to limit campaign donations will become law. Republicans have criticized the bill for failing to rein in the power of party leaders.
The legislation followed weeks of negotiations between government reform groups and Democratic leaders. Those reformers failed to get all they wanted; the compromise does not limit how much money political parties and legislative leaders can pump into general election campaigns.
Democratic Senator Heather Steans of Chicago defended the effort.
STEANS: For the first time ever, we're now going to be limiting money that comes in to the system. That's enormous. We're one of only four or five states that doesn't do that right now.
The bill sailed through the legislature, although with no Republican support. Senate GOP Leader Christine Radogno.
RADOGNO: We really do have the ability to take it further. And by taking this vote and passing this bill, we won't be able to revisit it, even though people with good intentions say they want to come back.
Governor Pat Quinn says he needs to do a final review of the campaign finance bill, but says he looks forward to signing it.
