Cook County Board President Todd Stroger is officially running for re-election. The Democrat yesterday got his paperwork to the county clerk about half an hour before the filing deadline. Stroger says he filed about 22,000 signatures.
STROGER: The trouble is not getting people to sign. The trouble is nowadays, you don't have as many people who are a part of your working group. And I've found that for everybody. Everyone said the same thing. It's harder to get people out to ask for petitions.
Stroger says he deserves to keep his job because the county is in good fiscal shape. His primary competitors are Congressman Danny Davis, Alderman Toni Preckwinkle, water reclamation head Terry O'Brien, and Clerk of Circuit Court Dorothy Brown.
