An evil race of mutant salamanders is poised to wipe out human-kind and take over the planet. It’s War with the Newts, based on the 1936 classic science fiction story. In the original book Czech writer Karel Capek uses the newts as a metaphor for the rising tide of fascism across Europe. But does Next Theatre keep things relevant and entertaining? Eight Forty-Eight’s Dueling Critics Jonathan Abarbanel and Kelly Kleiman have the review.

On stage:
Through June 20
By Next Theater at the Mullady Theater on the Loyola University campus
