Mohammad Khatami

Iran’s presidential elections are on June 12th and they are still sorting out the field of candidates. We learned earlier today, that former president and reform leader Mohammad Khatami withdrew from the presidential race. This leaves President Ahmadinejad competing with fellow conservative Ali Larigani.

O
n the reformer side of the Mahdi Karroubi who ran in the last election is now joined by a former prime minister Mir Hoessien Mousavi who threw his hat in the ring last week. And, there could be more candidates jumping in and out before it’s over. Ahmad Sadri, chair of Lake Forest College’s Islamic World Studies program joined Worldview to tell us more.
