Election officials will count remaining ballots today in Illinois’ 8th congressional district. Tuesday is the deadline for absentee ballots to arrive and for provisional ballots to be verified and counted. That means a winner for close races like the 8th Congressional district will soon be determined. Republican candidate Joe Walsh has more than 300 votes over Democratic incumbent U.S. Rep. Melissa Bean.
With the race still undecided, both candidates traveled to Washington D.C. on Monday. Walsh said he’s there for freshmen orientation for the U.S. Congress while Bean says she’s there to continue working. Both have said they are confident they will come up on top in the final count. The 8th district is split among Cook, McHenry and Lake counties.
