Jerome spends most of the hour today talking with Justice Albie Sachs, he's a Justice in South Africa's constitutional court.

He took a leadship in role in shaping the constitution.  The South Africa Constitution's now considered one of the most human-rights friendly constitutions in the world. But the road to its creation was filled with hardships and sacrifices.

Today, we'll revisit an interview with Albie Sachs where we discussed the hardships he faced and his role in shaping the South African Constitution.

Albie Sachs is probably the most widely known white freedom fighter.  He was twice imprisoned by white South African police. His book about his detention -- The Jail Diary of Albie Sachs -- made quite an impact internationally when it was published in 1976.

In Mozambique in 1988, South African Security Forces attempted to kill Sachs.  He lost an arm and an eye in that incident.  His book about his recovery is called The Soft Vengeance of a Freedom Fighter.

After his recovery he devoted himself full-time to preparations for a new democratic Constitution for South Africa.

He returned to South Africa in 1990 as a member of the Constitutional Committee and the National Executive of the ANC.

Albie Sachs life story is intertwined with the liberation movement He explained the influence his parents made.
