Here’s how many people have died of an overdose on the CTA

Deaths related to opioid overdoses on the CTA doubled between 2021 and 2022, according to an investigation by the Chicago Reader.

Last year, 60 people died from opioid-related overdoses on the CTA, according to an analysis by the Chicago Reader.

Reset talked with the reporter who broke down those numbers about the stories of the people behind the data. We also hear from people directly impacted: a mother who lost her son to an overdose on the CTA in 2021 and a Chicagoan who has used drugs for decades.
