Student organizers from Northwestern, University of Chicago, DePaul, and the School of the Art Institute have all set up pro-Palestine encampments in recent weeks. These encampments have been a part of an international student movement calling upon universities to acknowledge the “scholasticide” in Gaza, disclose their investments and holdings and divest from companies with ties to Israel or weapons manufacturers. No arrests have been made yet at Northwestern, UChicago or DePaul, but Chicago police forcefully cleared the SAIC encampment only hours after it had been set up, arresting nearly 70 protesters.
