Police oversight agency releases bodycam footage of fatal police shooting of Chicagoan Dexter Reed
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability said it will “carefully review the actions of the involved police officers and their supervisors to determine whether training, policy and directives were properly followed.”
Chicago’s Civilian Office of Police Accountability released bodycam footage of an exchange of gunfire last month that killed a 26-year-old man and wounded one police officer.
COPA said that Dexter Reed Jr. fired first at officers during a traffic stop. The agency also said that officers “returned fire approximately 96 times over a period of 41 seconds, including after Mr. Reed exited his vehicle and fell to the ground.” The officers’ gunfire hit Reed multiple times, and he died at a nearby hospital.
